Egypt launches tender offer for wind farms CAIRO (AFP) - Egypt is to launch a tender offer
for the installation of wind farms on the Gulf of
Suez with a capacity of 200 megawatts, Energy
Minister Hassan Yunis said on Sunday.
The tender represent the second and third phases
of the expansion of Egypt's wind farming plans
under a renewable energy programme, Yunis said in
a statement, adding the first phase was signed in
July.
The offer involves supplying and installing the
wind farms as well as maintenance, he said.
The wind power plant, scheduled to start work in
April 2014, is estimated to cost 500 million
dollars, with contributions from the European
Investment Bank and the European Commission, Yunis
said.
Egypt's total wind energy capacity currently
stands at around 550 megawatts and the country has
set a goal of producing 7,200 megawatts of wind
energy by 2020. Source - AFP
