S.Africa's Zuma welcomes Princess Charlene JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - President Jacob Zuma on
Sunday welcomed newlyweds Prince Albert II and
Princess Charlene of Monaco to South Africa, where
they will attend the International Olympic
Committee meeting this week.
"We are pleased to welcome the Olympic movement to
South Africa for the first IOC Session to be held
on the continent. It is an honour for us to host
this historic meeting," Zuma said in a statement.
"It is particularly special for us to welcome the
newlyweds HSH Prince Albert and HSH Princess
Charlene of Monaco to Princess Charlene's home
country," he said.
"We continue to treasure the pride Princess
Charlene brought to South Africa as an Olympic
swimmer."
The couple are due to leave Monaco on Tuesday for
Durban, where Charlene trained as a swimmer.
Albert is a member of the IOC and will participate
in the session, which on Wednesday will vote to
select the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics.
South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak arrived in
Durban late Saturday to lobby on behalf of
Pyeongchang.
Germany's President Christian Wulff will be there
to push for Munich, while French Prime Minister
Francois Fillon will advocate for the alpine town
of Annecy.
Zuma will officiate at the session's opening
