Health Minister Urges LAPAG To Address Increasing
Spate Of Medical Prescription By Unprofessional
Sources
The Lady Pharmacist Association of Ghana LAPAG has
been urged to step up its effort in addressing the
increasing spate of medical prescription by non
professionals in the country lately.
Minister of Health Sherry Ayettey made the call in
a speech read for her at the launch of the Lady
Pharmacist Association of Ghana on the theme
'LAPAG 20 Years of Science -Oriented Healthcare in
Accra.
According to him the unfortunate development would
pose a health security threat such as
antimicrobial resistance and irresponsible use of
medicine due to the lack of education on the
menace.
She has therefore charged LAPAG to employ multi
educational strategies through religious bodies,
educational and remote areas in the country to
educate the Ghanaians on the dangers of the menace
and its repercussion on the nation's development.
'I would urge you to deepen your commitment in
addressing various health programmes such as
HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, breast screening and
education, malaria and family health especially in
maternal and adolescent health,' she said.
'I believe by your training, you are in the
position to support these programmes reach the
targets we are struggling to reach in the
Millennium Development Goals MDG's,' she added.
The Health Minister also called on LAPAG to ensure
Ghanaians especially those rural areas benefit
from their services.
''My major worry is our inability to allow our
service to reach the hard to reach , most of the
services are all in urban areas leaving the rural
areas to the various middlemen who are trading
pharmaceuticals as ordinary items of commerce,''
she added.
She commended the Association for their numerous
social interventions support to the less privilege
in the past twenty years of their existence and
called for a deeper collaboration and partnership
with her ministry to address challenges in the
health sector of the country.
