Nothing stops Ghana from legalizing Polygamy---Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu
The office of the Vice President, Alhaji Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia, has noted with a concern with
stories and pictures circulating on social media
of a woman supposedly named Ramatu who is being
claimed as the wife of the Vice President.

A statement issued on March 12, 2021, in Accra and
signed by the spokesperson of the Vice President,
Gideon Boako, described it has palpable false and
Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has never met or seen
the purported Ramatu let alone take her has a
wife.

According to him, is a figment of the imagination
of people trying hard to tarnish the hard earn
image of the Vice President for their own
purposes.

Gideon Boako opined that the Vice President has
only one wife called Samira Bawumia and they have
married for 17 years even though his religion
permits him to marry up to four wives.

He, therefore, urged the public to ignore the
propaganda and deliberate falsehood.

In reference to the Ramatu rumours, a US-based
lecturer, Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu, is calling on the
leadership of the country to legalize polygamy
like Kenya did in 2014.

According to him, it's public knowledge that
virtually all ex and current politicians in the
country have two or more wives with multiple kids
as well.

He noted that the laws of Ghana do not allow
polygamy as you cannot put it on official records
of having two or more wives, especially as a
President or Vice President of the land.

He called on Ghanaians to allow the Vice President
to have a breathing space.

According to Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu, there are more
important issues facing the country for us to be
concerned about as Ghanaians than to be talking
about another person's libido.

He concluded that it is time for leadership to
consider taking a bold decision to legalize
polygamy in Ghana like Kenya did in 2014 to put an
end to some of these unwarranted attacks on
officialdom.
