Approve Ursula if you approve Agyeman-Manu, Kan-Dapaah and others
Lawyer and researcher at the University of
Cambridge, Mawuse Oliver Barker-Vormawor has said
that Parliament will have to approve of the
nomination of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful if it approves
of other Ministers-designate such as the Health
Minister and others, stressing that if Mrs
Owusu-Ekuful is rejected, it will be as a result
of misogyny – hatred on the part of men for
women.

Yesterday, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful faced the Appointments
Committee of Parliament with many calling for her
disqualification for among others, failing to
deliver as Minister of Communications.

Writing on social media, Mr Barker-Vormawor noted
that Mrs Owusu-Ekuful deserves to be treated like
all other nominees who are deemed mediocre. He is
of the view that both the New Patriotic Party
(NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
have that demonstrated commitment to addressing
the gender problem in our politics.

“Neither of our main political parties is truly
committed to addressing the Gender problem in our
politics. They are great at lip service and cheap
optics.

Having watched a fair amount of the ministerial
vetting going on in Parliament, I just want to say
that if the NDC joins the Majority to confirm the
Health, National Security, Defense, and AG
minister designates, they have no moral authority
to vote against Ursula Owusu! If they do, it will
be for no reason other than misogyny,” he said
in a post sighted by MyNewsGh.com.

Mr Barker-Vormawor explained that patriarchy –
the system that gives most or all the power and
influence to men – will be the reason why the
men who have been named by the President will be
spared will Mrs Owusu-Ekuful is disqualified.

“Patriarchy excuses mediocre men, and yet flexes
its muscles with impunity when women are involved.
Patriarchy sacks Victoria Hamah but keeps Eugene
Arhin at post. Patriarchy suspends Hosanna Louise
Carol but maintains Charles Bissue. Ursula
deserves the same fair shot as all the other
mediocre nominees. Confirm her!” He stressed.
