Man kills wife over missing GH¢200
A 46-year-old plumber has been arrested by the
police for allegedly murdering his wife after
accusing her of stealing GH¢200 at Bortiano near
Weija in Accra.

Samuel Otoo, who had been married to Rita Otoo for
the past four months, was reported to have hit the
deceased’s head with a hammer during a scuffle.

He was said to have later locked the deceased
unattended to in their room, left for work and
later found her dead in the evening.

The Accra Regional Public Relations Officer,
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia
Tenge told The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday
stating that the suspect is in custody of the
police assisting in investigations.

She said on April 15, Otoo accused his wife of
stealing his money, adding that during an argument
with his wife he hit her head with a hammer and
she became unconscious.

ASP Tenge said the suspect after committing the
act left the woman in their room and left for work
and when he returned to see his wife dead, he
immediately took the body to a private funeral
home for preservation and told them his wife died
of blood pressure.

She said when the body was examined, there was
blood oozing from the part of the head where the
hammer hit.

ASP Tenge said the police received information
about the crime and the suspect was arrested.

She said initial investigations revealed the
couple married on December 24, 2016.

The PRO said during interrogation Otoo told the
Police he placed his money in the room the
previous night and realised it had been stolen the
following day.

She said Otto accused his wife since they were the
only two living in the room but she denied having
taken the money and this resulted in a scuffle and
Otoo used a hammer he uses for his plumbing work
to kill his wife.

ASP Tenge said the suspect would be arraigned
soon.
