Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako

They only paid Security Coordinator a visit - Wontumi defends Delta Force
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New
Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka
Chairman Wontumi has jumped to the defence of the
party’s vigilante group based in Kumasi, Delta
Force, claiming the latter did not attack the
Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator.

According to him, members of the Delta Force only
went to the Security Coordinator, George Agyei’s
office to pay him a visit and not harass him as
has been widely announced by the media.

Dozens of stoutly built young men who are members
of the Delta Force a fortnight ago, stormed the
office of the Regional Security Coordinator
located at the Regional Coordinating Council and
stopped Mr Agyei from working.

They claimed they couldn’t work with Mr. Agyei
because he is not a native of the Ashanti Region.
It took the timely intervention of the police to
save the situation and restore law and order.

The angry men had earlier destroyed some office
equipment in their bid to drive out Mr Agyei.

Their action was roundly condemned by a large
section of the public who called for their arrest.
Less than 24 hours after the act, the leader of
the group Kwadwo Bamba was arrested by the
Police.

Other members were subsequently arrested and
charged for the offence of conspiracy to assault
and assaulting a public officer and causing
unlawful damage.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo over the
weekend when he called on the Asantehene, Otumfuo
Osei Tutu as part of his 3-day visit to the
Ashanti Region, condemned the rampage and attack
on Mr Agyei by the Delta Force and pledged to make
the laws of the country work under his
government.

But speaking on Neat FM Monday, Chairman Wontumi,
stated that per his knowledge of Delta Force, the
group is law abiding and never engage in an
illegality.

“I can vouch for them, they are a group of well
meaning young men who will not harm anybody. If
you watch the video carefully, you’ll realize
that the police officers were rather driving away
the security coordinator and not members of the
Delta Force. Nowhere in the video is any of the
Delta Force members seen touching the Security
Coordinator, this is the first time I’m making
this comment. I’ve spoken to them and they tell
me they were not there to drive anyone away. They
were only there to pay the Security Coordinator a
visit and not to harass him, it is not their job
to eject anybody.”
