NPP will focus on all disciplines – Bonifac
A former Minister of Water Resources, Works and
Housing, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, has said the
New Patriotic Party (NPP) will place premium on
all sporting disciplines and not just focus on
football if elected into power after the December
7 polls.

Football has for many years received good funding
to the detriment of other sports in the country,
but the former Member of Parliament for Salaga,
speaking to Class Sports, said the NPP had a
plan.

“NPP is not going to be restricted to football
but will focus on all other sports. For instance,
when you go to the Olympic Games, any medal won
for football is marked as just one, whereas if you
have 11 swimmers and they each win a medal, you
have 11 medals. It, therefore, does not make much
meaning for us to put all of our eggs in one
basket. We want to create a sports dimensional
society,” he told Hussein Hassan.

He also revealed that the NPP would concentrate on
capacity building by sending coaches of the
various sporting disciplines to acquire special
skills, as well as set up academies to help
educate young and upcoming footballers who would
have skills in other fields added to their
football talent.

“We have the intention of ensuring that we give
special capacity building with respect to coaches
in various disciplines and take them outside for
special courses, as well as set up academies that
will train footballers, athletes, amateur boxers
to offer them added skills to their natural
talent,” he said.
