Former GFA boss slams coach Avram Grant Accra, March 3, GNA - Former chairman of the Ghana
Football Association (GFA), Mr. Ben Koufie is
unhappy with the decision of the Black Stars
manager Avram Grant to spend much of his time in
Europe instead of monitoring the local league.
"It is wrong. He is the national coach and must
develop football of this country and that can be
done when does not live here and sees what is
going on in our league." He noted in an interview
with the media.
According to the former GFA chairman, Mr Grant has
gone back on his promise to Ghanaians to reside in
the country and help develop local coaches and
clubs, since he was mostly out of the country.
"I remember very well when he was being
interviewed, i asked him (Avram Grant), whether he
was going to stay here or live in Europe and he
said he was going to stay in Ghana to help develop
local coaches as well as the clubs and so I don't
see why the sudden change." He said.
"To say that our league is useless and all the
players are based in Europe and so you will stay
in Europe is unfair. That was not the arrangement
which the GFA made with him. He stated.
Mr. Koffie's remarks comes after many Ghanaians
have criticised Black Stars trainer Avram Grant's
constant travels to Europe and not monitoring the
local league to able to unearth talents for the
national team.
Media reports suggests that the GFA is disgruntled
with his behavior and has ordered Grant to return
to the country.
Grant was appointed head trainer of the Ghana
National team on November 27, 2014 and led them to
the finals of 2015 African Cup of Nations in
Equatorial Guinea where they lost out on penalties
to the Ivory Coast.
