Asamah Gyan handed top continental award in Asia

Asamoah Gyan awarded 2014 AFC Foreign Player of the Year
Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has been awarded the
Foreign Player of the Year in the Asian
Confederation.

The Black Stars captain wins the continental award
following his exploits in the just ended Asian
Champions League.

Gyan emerged the top scorer of the competition
with 12 goals in Al Ain’s campaign which ended
at the semi final stage.

The 28-year-old’s award will be handed over to
the UAE FA for onward transfer to the former
Sunderland hitman who is currently with the Black
Stars despite being ruled out due to injury.

“Al Ain’s Ghanaian player Mr. Asamoah Gyan’s
consistent and excellent performance in the AFC
Champions League scoring a total of 12 goals and
helping his team reach the semi finals of the
competition is an achievement to be proud of,” a
letter signed by the AFC General Secretary Dato
Soosay to the UAE FA read.

“On behalf of AFC President and the AFC
Executive Committee members, it is our honour to
present the AFC Foreign Player of the Year 2014
accolade to Mr. Asamoah Gyan.

“The award will be sent to your association this
month and we wish all the best to Mr. Asamoah Gyan
for the future.”

Gyan has been racking up awards after awards since
his arrival in the UAE in 2011.

The Black Stars leading scorer shocked the whole
world with his initial loan move from Sunderland
to Al Ain.

Many believed the move was backward and will not
inure to the benefit of the 28-year-old.

But Gyan’s scoring record for both club and
country has been nothing short of phenomenon.

He has emerged top goalscorer in the UAE top
flight for three consecutive times and has also
again been shortlisted in the initial nominations
for this year’s Africa Player of the Year
award.
