Maxwell Konadu to stay in charge as Ghana coach until new trainer is named
Maxwell Konadu will stay in charge as Ghana coach
until a new trainer for the Black Stars is named
despite earlier reports that he has finished
serving as the interim boss.

With a long process for selecting the permanent
coach of the just getting underway it is unlikely
that the Ghana FA will have a permanent coach in
place before next month's matches.

Ghana are scheduled Uganda and Togo in just four
weeks' time, which means it is unlikely a new
coach can be appointed in time to fully take
charge of the team and name his squad.

With European clubs supposed to be informed of
their players call-up for matches two weeks before
the matches, it means the Ghana has just 14 days
to name their players.

This also means Konadu is the person to name the
squad as the coach selection process is unlikely
to be completed before he informs teams of their
players' call-up.

This puts to rest claims that Konadu has reverted
to his role as the Ghana assistant coach.

Ghana Football Association executive committee
member Fred Pappoe has said last month before the
matches against Guinea that there will be an
interim boss in place until a new coach is found.

“We are not looking at that target [the Guinea
matches], it's not going to be possible,” Pappoe
told BBC Sport last month.

“We could do that but we wouldn't be satisfied
with the kind of work we would have done if we use
the target of those two games.

“So I believe the GFA are working on some
interim arrangements to make sure the team is
capably handled for the two matches.”

Konadu strengthened his bid to become Ghana coach
permanently following the Black Stars 3-1 defeat
of Guinea 3-1 in Africa Cup of Nations
qualifying.

Three European coaches have been shortlisted for
the permanent coaching position of the Black
Stars.

Kwesi Appiah left as coach earlier this month and
applications for the job closed on 19 September.
