2014 AWC Finals: Black Queens open campaign against Algeria this afternoon Ghana open their 2014 African Women's Championship
campaign against Algeria on Sunday in a Group B
clash.
Head coach Yusif Basigi will be hoping to overturn
Ghana's recent below par performances at the
Championship.
The Black Queens, three-time runners up have
failed to come out of their group in 2008 and 2010
before failing to qualify for the 2012
tournament.
And when they open their group campaign against
Algeria as they return to the Championship, the
hopes of Basigi will be to get off to a flying
start at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.
After graduating through the youth ranks, players
like Faiza Ibrahim, Samira Suleiman, Elizabeth
Cudjoe and Mercy Myles carry the hopes of an
expectant nation.
Though chasing their debut title and a fine start,
the Black Queens will also be pushing for
qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup to be
held in Canada from 6 June to 5 July, 2015.
