Free gate for Ghana-Uganda qualifier Kumasi, GNA – Football fans who throng the Baba
Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Saturday for the
Ghana-Uganda 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier
would pay no gate fees, the GNA Sport has
gathered.
Dr Samuel Sarpong, Ashanti Regional Minister has
said that “The fans would however be given
tickets to facilitate their entry into the
Stadium”.
Clement Kegeri of the Public Relations Directorate
at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC),
confirming this to the GNA Sports said that the
directive is to encourage supporters to fill the
Stadium.
The move comes in the wake of threats by some
supporters to boycott the match in protest of the
Black Stars’ recent abysmal performance,
particularly at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“We are urging Ghanaians to troop to the Stadium
in support of the team”, Kegeri pleaded.
Meanwhile, the National Sports Authority has
declined to comment on the directive. Saka
Acquaye, the Regional Sports Director said he was
not in the position to comment on the issue.
Information pieced-together by the GNA Sports
indicates that the move followed an emergency
meeting involving the Ministry of Youth and
Sports, Ghana Football Association and the
Regional Minister on Thursday. Source - GNA
