Fans boycott Stars training sessions Kumasi, Sept 03, GNA - Football fans in Kumasi
have staged a boycott of training sessions of the
Black Stars, ahead of their 2015 Africa Cup of
Nations qualifier against Uganda at the Baba
Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, on Saturday.
The boycott is a protest to the poor performance
of the team at the prestigious FIFA World Cup
tournament hosted by Brazil.
The Stars have been training in a virtually empty
stadium, an unusual habit with football fans in
the Garden City.
Only a handful of people are seen at their
training sessions and those, who spoke to the GNA
Sport, said there was no motivation to watch the
team play.
“We are disappointed in the team. I think the
players are just being pampered and this is
getting the better of them to the detriment of the
team’s overall development”, Zugah Davids, a
member of the Millennium Supporters Union of
Ghana, said.
He criticized the players for being unpatriotic
and vowed not to be present at stadium on
Saturday.
Alhaji Osman Yahya, another fan said it was time
the footballers got it right and showed total
commitment to lift the flag of the nation high.
“The indiscipline simply needs to end, we have
had enough of that”, he added.
Yaw Owusu, a former player of Kumasi Cornerstones,
however, encouraged the team to remain focused,
play with passion and subdue whatever challenge
the Ugandans might present. Source - GNA
