Fuseini Mumuni Fuseina unfazed by debut World Cup In just ten days' time Costa Rica will welcome
Ghana and the rest of the world for the start of
the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Since winning bronze at the last tournament, Ghana
has emerged as a major force and will face tough
challenges in the group which includes the 2012
runners-up Korea DPR - champions of the inaugural
edition in 2008, Germany and Canada.
It will be the same challenge for eight players
who played at the last World Cup but not for
Fuseina Mumuni, who recently turned 13 and makes
the team for her World Cup debut.
Fuseina is the youngest player at the competition
and will have some experienced colleagues to guide
her through.
However, the 13 year-old has gathered enough
courage since playing for the national team in a
friendly against Nigeria last month.
“When we played against Nigeria [in a friendly],
many of the girls were bigger than me but I was
always determined to play against them,” Fuseina
said.
“The national camp is a little different. I had
a lot of challenges but I always told myself that
I have to make it and I worked hard at it.”
Hard-work might have driven her to such heights so
soon but she is eager to make the most out the
opportunities.
“I’m going to try my best at the World Cup so
that my colleagues will also get the opportunity
to play with the national team.”
Finishing third at the last competition seems to
have boosted the Black Maidens as Fuseina reveals
their determination to go very far.
“We’re going to do our best at the World Cup.
I think we can win the cup because we won bronze
the last time so we will do our best to win the
trophy this time around. We will work hard and do
what the coaches tell us to do,” she said. Source - Ghana FA
