Mahama charges Black Stars to go for victory President John Mahama has urged the Black Stars to
go all out and make the nation proud when they
come up against Egypt in the World Cup playoff at
the Baba Yara Sports Stadium next Tuesday.
The President fired on the Stars when he visited
the team during their last training session at the
Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
The Stars have been camping in Accra since
Tuesday but will depart to Kumasi on Wednesday.
Coach Akwasi Appiah had a full house at the
training grounds with the exception of Shalkeh 04
midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng, who has been
ruled out of the tie due to a knee injury.
President John Mahama called on the players to
remain focused ahead of the game.
"Let's focus on this match. I took time off to
see you. I am the chief supporter of your team,
the leader of this country and to tell you that
the whole country is solidly behind you", Mr.
Mahama told the Stars.
The President said: "Whatever we will do is to
support you to win this match. We will do our bit
but all of us can't go on the pitch so those who
are going to represent us can expect nothing but
our support".
"I want to thank you very much, I wish you good
luck. We count on you, we will pray for you, we
know God is on our side. We will pray to the
almighty God to give you victory," President
Mahama added.
Present at the training grounds were the Sports
Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and President of the
Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Ghana is pushing for a record third straight
World Cup appearance while Egypt seeks to break a
24 year old jinx. The tournament comes off in
Brazil between June 12 and July 12 next year.
