FA confirms Turkey friendly The President of the Ghana Football Asociation,
Kwesi Nyantakyi, has given the thumbs up to next
week's international friendly between the Black
Stars and Turkey.
The Black Stars were brought in as late
replacements for Uzbekistan who pulled out of the
match with the Turkish team.
The match falls on FIFA's day for friendlies and
according to the FA boss, it will be a very good
opportunity for Ghana to assess its preparedness
ahead of September's FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifier
with Zambia at the Baba Yara Stadium.
"We were looking for an opponent for that day for
friendlies. We considered many teams but we
settled on Turkey so the match will go ahead on
the 14th of August. It is very good for us because
it comes before our match with Zambia", Nyantakyi
said in an interview.
The FA boss went ahead to highlight how Ghana's
good form in recent years and a wide network of
contacts have managed to get the Black Stars to
play a top opponent like Turkey who have players
such as Dortmund's Nuri Sahin and Galatasary's
Burak Yilmaz.
He also cited the GFA's good working relationship
with the Turkish Federation played in Ghana's
favour.
"Ghana's good track record has given us this
chance. In addition, our contacts all over the
world have helped.
We had to put things in overtime and bring a lot
of people into the process to get us this match.
In addition, our good relationship with the
Turkish Football Federation over the years
factored into the arrangement.
We played against them in 2006 as we were
preparing for the World Cup so getting this match
was just a continuation of that good
relationship."
The match will be played at the Ataturk Athletic
Stadium in Istanbul on the 14th of August, 2013.
