Ghana legend Ibrahim Sunday backs Yaya Toure to win CAF Award
Ghana legend, Sunday, tips Yaya Toure for Caf Gong Ghana legend Ibrahim Sunday does not fancy Andre
Ayew winning the African Footballer of the Year
award.
The 22-year-old comes up against favourite Ivory
Coast Yahaya Toure and Mali’s Seydou Keita.
He clinched the 2011 BBC African Footballer of the
Year but the criteria for the two awards are
chosen by two different groups which makes his
chances dicey.
But Toure is touted as the huge favourite to win
the award for the first time following impressive
performances for his club Manchester City and the
Elephants.
Sunday, who won the coveted award in 1971, insists
the Marseille winger may have to wait for another
time.
“I wish Andre wins but to be very honest it
going t very different tough. Toure is a sure bet
to win the award following his performances for
club and country over the years,” Sunday told
Accra-based Citi FM
“He (Andre) is young and will get another chance
to win the award if he continues with such
performances for Marseille and the Black
Stars.”
The ceremony will be staged at the State Banquet
Hall in Accra.
