Andre Ayew set sights on 2012 Afcon title
Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew has shifted his focus
of winning next year’s Africa Cup of Nations
after the Black Stars played their last match for
the year.

The Black Stars needed a last gasp winner from
South-Korea based Derek Asamoah to beat tournament
co-hosts Gabon 2-1 in an international friendly in
Paris on Tuesday night.

The Marseille winger put up another matchless
performance and floated the corner which was
perfectly guided home by Asamoah for the match
winner.

He was delighted to have helped the West African
country to end the year on a high and said the
focus was no to prepare and end the country’s
29-year trophy drought.

“It was a good match and we’re happy we won
the game today. We must now forget about this game
and continue with our preparations for the Cup of
Nations,” Ayew said in a post-match interview.

“The game was a good preparatory match for us
and so I’m happy we ended on a winning note.

“It’s important for team confidence going into
a major tournament like the Cup of Nations”

Coach Goran Stevanovic handed German strikers
Jeffrey Schlupp and Charles Takyi their debuts in
Ghana colours as second-half substitutes.

The Serbian will now have a fair idea of which
players he will need to draft to help him become
the first expatriate to guide the Black Stars to
win an African title.
