Thompson Promises AAG Title British-born Ghanaian boxer Norris Kyei Thompson
is brimming with optimism, hoping to leave good
footprints in Maputo, Mozambique, by clinching
gold in the forthcoming All African Games (AAG).
In the company of Ambassador Ray Quarcoo,
president of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation
(GABF), Thompson zoomed into the VIP Lounge of the
Kotoka International Airport last Thursday evening
dressed in a grey designer suit, declaring that
victory is in sight.
The London 2011, ABA Elite Champion proclaimed on
arrival that 'I have put in so much by way of
preparations towards the Games. Ghana is blessed
with many boxing talents.
'I will blend Ghana's boxing power with my
technique and skill, and that will certainly win
titles for Gold Coast (Ghana). I am extremely
happy to be here, the reception is awesome and I'm
delighted,' he added.
After speaking briefly with the press, he walked
down to the VIP Car Park where he was greeted with
wild drumming and singing by members of the
various supporters groups. He danced
uncontrollably to the local 'jama' tunes in
appreciation of the big welcome.
Thompson is in the country to join other members
of the national boxing team, the Black Bombers,
who are preparing feverishly for the 10th All
African Games slated for Maputo next month.
The GABF boss revealed, 'The invitation of
Thompson forms part of my outfit's quest to
restore the lost glory of the sport. Amateur
boxing is like apprenticeship, they must go
through the mill as we strive to produce quality
pros.'
In like manner, another British-born Ghanaian
boxer, Michael A. Bediako, who arrived earlier
this week, said he was in the best of shapes to
win the country gold in the Maputo Games.
The All African Games is scheduled for Maputo from
September 3 to 18. Source - Daily Guide
