Companies to get tax rebate - Sports Minister The Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Humado, has
said his outfit would ensure that corporate bodies
that support sports development in the country
receive the necessary tax rebate.
According the measure was necessary to encourage
corporate bodies and individuals whose efforts
help in developing sports across the country.
At a media launch by Aspire Football Dream in
Accra last Wednesday, Mr Humado said he would
ensure the full implementation of a provision in
law that guarantees corporate bodies and
individuals some tax rebate for their support to
sport in the country.
He said the full implementation of the law would
encourage corporate sponsorship and individual
support for sports across the country to sustain
the development of new talent to replenish Ghana's
stock of sportsmen and sportswomen.
Mr Humado said he would also activate the terms of
a memorandum of understanding signed between Ghana
and the Qatari Olympic movement, Qatar's
equivalent of the Sports Ministry, in order that
Ghanaians benefits fully from an exchange
programme as contained in the MOD.
Among other things, the MOD assures Ghana of
material and financial support from Qatar towards
the development of sports in the country.
In return, Ghana would export technical services
such as coaches to train technical personnel in
the Gulf state.
Mr Humado said he would begin meetings with the
Ghana Football Association to find how best to
reap the benefits of the MOD which was signed two
years ago when former sector Minister, Rashid
Pelpuo, visited Qatar at the invitation of the
Qatari Olympic Movement.
GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, said Ghana stood
to gain from the MOD, and encouraged the Minister
to implement the content of the agreement for full
effect. Source - Daily Graphic
