Survival battles dominates Sunday fixtures
The Glo Premier League's relegation battle heads
into the final stages of the season this weekend.

It's been a long road since the start of the
season in September with only Berekum Chelsea
having something to show - the title - for their
campaign in the Glo Premier League.

But with three games to go, five teams at the
bottom of the table are fighting to avoid the
drop. It's certainly going to be a nervy weekend
fueled by clubs' desire to survive.

The threat of lost revenue and relegation looms
large as two from Wa All Stars, King Faisal,
Berekum Arsenals, Mighty Jets and Real Tamale
United will join B.A. Stars into the Division One
League.

Mighty Jets, lying 14th on the table would attempt
to improve their placing when they host Asante
Kotoko, who are chasing the second position at the
Ohene Djan Stadium on Saturday.

On Sunday, the bulk of the weekend's match-day-28
matches would be played with Wa All Stars, who are
11th seeking to claim all three points when they
travel to the Len Clay Stadium to face
AshantiGold, who are also pushing for second
place.

King Faisal, 12th on the table, would continue
their push at the Baba Yara Stadium where they
welcome New Edubiase.

New champions, Berekum Chelsea would enjoy a
derby, just four days after wrapping up the title
with a clash against Berekum Arsenals at the
Golden City Park.

The Gunners are placed 14th on the standings and
need to pull away from the bottom ranks to
possibly avoid the drop. But the champions have
promised to field a strong side despite having the
won the league even with three games to spare.

“We have won the league but it does not mean
we’re going to rest on our owls. We need to keep
the winning mentality and therefore won’t be
resting players unnecessarily,” Orlando
Wellignton, coach of Chelsea said.

“Of course it’s time to give other players who
have not been involved regulary the chance, but we
want to end on a flying note.”

The game at the Tamale Sports Stadium would see
the bottom two sides, Real Tamale United and B.A.
Stars play for the points. RTU are tipped to pick
all three points.

Accra Hearts of Oak are all but safe after they
were caught up in the relegation bracket of the
league weeks past. The Phobians would be home to
former champions, Aduana Stars.

At the Tarkwa T&A Park, Medeama's hopes of a
top-four finish will continue when they battle
Liberty Professionals.

Heart of Lions will take on Ebusua Dwarfs at the
Kpando Park to complete the weekend's fixture
wrap.
