Gov’t targets 40% tertiary education enrolment ratio by 2030 The government has announced its readiness to
increase the country’s tertiary education
enrolment to 40 per cent from 18.1 per cent, by
the next 10 years.
The new direction is planned to focus more on
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM) related fields, with emphasis on
engineering, according to the President, Nana
Akufo-Addo.
“This will be achieved by significantly
increasing enrolment in existing public and
private universities and through the establishment
of an Open University,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo, who delivered the ‘State
of the Nation Address’ observed that despite
attaining 64 years since independence, the country
still lacks a critical mass of tertiary education
graduates that is required for socioeconomic
transformation.
He assured that the guarantor requirement for
students’ loan application, through the Student
Loan Trust Fund programme. Source - B&FT
