Yaw Afrifa Yamoah Ponko has confessed to have paid monies as bribes to assembly members in the area I paid GH¢300,000 ‘bribe’ to be confirmed as MCE - Yamoah Ponko A former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for
Ejisu/Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Yaw Afrifa
Yamoah Ponko has confessed to have paid monies as
bribes to assembly members in the area prior to
confirmation.
“As I speak to you I am indebted to the tune of
three billion old Cedis paid before assembly
members approved me to become MCE” he revealed
on a local radio station.
The former MCE under erstwhile National Democratic
Congress (NDC) administration revelation comes at
the time President Akufo-Akufo’s nominee for the
MCE position Serwaa Derchi was rejected after
allegations of paying two thousand Cedis to each
Assembly member in the area.
Commenting on the development on Nhyiria FM in
Kumasi, Yemoah Ponko alleged that civil servants
together with some Assembly members have hatched
heinous plans to prevent Madam Serwaa Derchi from
getting confirmed.
According to him, this heinous plan formed by
senior administrators at the Assembly to ensure
nobody becomes MCE so to run affairs on their own
accord without political interference.
The nominee in an election polled thirty (30) out
of sixty-eight (68) votes cast failing to secure
the required number of votes to assume the
position as MCE.
Afrifa Yamoah Ponko however appealed to the
Assembly members to endorse the nomination of
Madam Derchi to ensure quicker development of the
municipality as well as to save the Assembly from
corrupt administrators. Source - mynewsgh.com
