I will beat parents who fail to send children to school – Minister Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister has threatened to
‘beat’ any parent who refuses to send her
children to school in the region. Madam Elizabeth
Agyeman does not understand why under President
Akufo-Addo’s governance, children of school
going age would be left to loiter instead of going
to school to study.
The former Member of Parliament for Oforikrom
Constituency in the Ashanti Region was speaking on
Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Tuesday. She said in
twi, “I will beat women who refuse to send their
words to school, because the school feeding is
coming, the capitation grant is coming, free
school policy is also coming so what is your worry
not to take them to school?” She warned that she
will drive her car around “to inspect whether
parents are sending their children to school”.
Madam Agyeman added that it is the vision of the
president to ensure that every child goes to
school, this vision she said would be ensured by
her and the minister. Women development The former
MP said she will ensure that women in the region
are given small loans from MASLOC to enable them
to be self-sufficient instead of relying on their
husbands always. The Deputy Minister however noted
because it is from the government, repayment of
the loans is always a problem, “but we shall
make it flexible for them to be able to pay”.
Transport fare increment
Commenting on the increment of transport fares
which takes effect tomorrow [Thursday], the Deputy
Minister said “we need to explain to Ghanaians
why transport fares have been increased”.
She acknowledged that the New Patriotic Party had
promised that things would be good for Ghanaians
when it comes to power, but not to make things
harsh for them. Madam Agyeman urged Ghanaians to
be calm because the President and government will
not do anything that will disadvantage Ghanaians. Source - 3news.com
