John Boadu rejected ministerial position - Kennedy Agyapong The acting General Secretary and National
Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John
Boadu rejected an offer from President Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be a minister in his
government.
NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central,
Kennedy Agyapong speaking on Adom TV’s Bedwam on
Tuesday revealed that he and John Boadu were part
of the persons considered by the President for
ministerial appointments after the party’s
victory.
The two of them, he said were selected to
represent the Assin block in the party but both of
them turned the offer down.
“I don’t want to be a minister, we wanted to
present John Boadu (to the President) but he also
turned the offer down…I have seen that some of
our leaders want some of us to be ministers but we
turned the offer down…,” he said.
Some chiefs in the Assin area of the Central
Region had threatened not to vote for the NPP in
the next four years for because President
Akufo-Addo failed to nominate any person from the
area to be a minister.
Their call was followed by that of the chiefs from
the Gomoa area who also insisted that despite the
NPP winning for the first time, all the seats in
the area, they have failed to offer any of the
people from the area ministerial appointment.
Reacting to this, Ken Agyapong said he was aware
of the problem and wondered how Nana Addo failed
to elect persons from the areas as Ministers or
deputies.
He however urged the chiefs to exercise restraint
as the government would reign for four years
within which the President is entitled to a
reshuffle.
“I am pleading with the chiefs and people to be
patient with us because we have a four years
mandate and by all means, there would be a
reshuffle but the problem I have now is that I
can’t really talk much about it because myself,
John Boadu all rejected the offers, so when we
complain, they would ask us what our problem
is…,” he said.
Ken Agyapong also assured the chiefs that very
soon, an Assin would be appointed into key
position because they have made strong arguments
for that person.
“If Nana Addo fails to elect that person, I
won’t defend whatever happens at Assin
again…,” he added.
