Ursula Owusu-Ekuful was vetted by the Appointments Committee Public sector workers to use Gov’t email addresses – Ursula The Communications Minister-nominee, Ursula
Owusu-Ekuful, plans to ensure all government
employees will be conducting government business
with official emails addresses and not their
private email accounts if she is approved as the
minister.
She explained during her vetting for the
Communications Minister portfolio that this would
ensure sensitive information was not compromised
by private emails.
“One major commitment that I am making is that
tall government employees, ministries, departments
and agencies, including myself, get proper email
addresses and do government businesses on the
government platform hosted at the data centre for
security of the information and institutional
memory so they don’t leave employment and go
with that information on their private emails.”
“So hopefully by the end of this year [2017],
all of us will be using proper email addresses,”
she said. Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful’s pledge formed part
of her larger intend to make use of already
existing telecommunications-related infrastructure
and investments like the National Data Centre, the
Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence or the Ghana
Technology University college.
As a further example, she suggested for the Ghana
Technology University college that, “we can give
them more training, build up their capacities to
deliver better so they can train more young people
in the development of the apps and the content.
We need to the ride on the infrastructure that is
already there.” “We need to use the
investments we have made in the infrastructure for
our benefit. It is of no use laying the fibre and
putting it in the ground or building a data centre
if we are not using it for anything.” Source - citifmonline.com
