NASPA gives gov’t 1-week ultimatum to pay newly approved allowance The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA)
has given government a one-week ultimatum to pay
its members the approved allowances this month,
lest it will embark on a nationwide demonstration
against the government.
The association has expressed disappointment in
the Akufo-Addo-led administration for ignoring the
payment of the new pay structure of an amount of
GHS 599.04 from an initial figure of GHS 350.00
for its members which should’ve taken effect,
January 2017.
“We went to the bank only to realise that we are
still taking the GHS 350.00.We are giving
government a One-week ultimatum to give us our
entitled GHS 559.04 that we work tirelessly to
earn.We will stage a Nation Wide Demonstration to
address our issues,” the group said in a
statement released Monday, January 30, 2017.
The Mahama-led NDC administration increased the
allowance for National Service personnel before
leaving government.
According to a memo, signed on December 14, 2016,
by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance,
the new monthly allowance was quoted as 559.04
cedis.
This was a 209 cedi increase (representing a 40
percent rise) in the monthly allowances which
until now was etched at 350 cedis effective
January 1, 2017.
