NPP ascribes electoral gains in Western Region to hard work Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the
Western Region have attributed the electoral gains
of the party in the region to hard work, and
promised to deliver on the party’s promises
which also gave them a push. The party’s
Regional Communication Director, Okatakyie Amankwa
Afrifa said taking a cue from the Amenfi West
by-election, the region adopted a field work
strategy which ensured that there was a member of
the regional campaign team on all the six campaign
zones created in the region. “Within the
regional campaign team, we divided the region into
six zones and at every point in time, there was a
regional campaign team member supervising to make
sure that everything is being done right,” Mr
Afrifa said. Speaking to Connect FM, the Director
assured the people that the NPP would work towards
fulfilling all the campaign promises for the
region, especially the creation of a Western North
Region out of the region. “Some of the things
would have to go through parliament like the
creation of the western north. We will start the
process as soon as possible. One million dollar
per constituency; our budget after the swearing in
will feature it. “Making the Western Region the
hub of oil in the West African sub region will
also come on. That means bringing the GNPC to the
Western Region. We are coming to deliver!,” he
assured the people. Meanwhile, the Regional
Communications Director of the National Democratic
Congress, Famous Tumi Acquah, said the party is
currently doing a retrospection of what accounted
to the loss of the eight parliamentary seats to
the NPP. He said they are working on a mob up
strategy to win those seats back in the next
elections in 2020. Mr Acquah rejected suggestions
that the national executives through to the
constituency executives are to be blamed for the
dwindled fortunes of the party in the region which
accounted for the loss of votes. Out of the 26
seats in the region, the NPP bagged 16 in the
December 7 elections. The party prior to the
elections held only eight parliamentary seats.
