Save your people - Wontumi cries to Otumfuo The Ashanti Regional Office of the opposition New
Patriotic Party (NPP) is seeking the immediate
intervention of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu
II, in what it said was a fresh scheme by the NDC
administration to cause mayhem in the region ahead
of next week's elections.
The opposition party wants His Royal Majesty to
call the President and his party to order over
moves intended to foment trouble in the region.
The appeal follows the impoundment of trucks
carrying cache of weapons. A Jeep truck with
Nigerian licence number 468-13D labeled Peace
MOWAC, was impounded together with three other
additonal vehicles following a tip-off and is
currently in the custody of the 4BN Brigade in
Kumasi.
In the truck was cache of weapons and unspent
bullets which were seized from a man identified as
Cobson and alleged by the Ashanti Regional
Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako to be a known
member of the ruling National Democratic Congress
(NDC). According to the Mr. Boasiako, his
investigation revealed that Cobson resides at
Asuoyeboah SSNIT Flats with house number AH
2015S.
The vehicles, together with the contraband items
are currently under the supervision of W/O1 Amoah,
who reportedly intervened to save the suspect,
Cobson, from being lynched by the team that
arrested him.
Earlier this month, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka
Chairman Wontumi had warned that the ruling party
was planning to stockpile arms with the aim of
causing violence i n the region on the day of the
elections.
Addressing a press conference to give details
about the issue, Chairman Wontumi, in a charged
mood, called on the Asantehene to save his people
from destruction.
The NPP Regional Chairman wants his Royal Majesty
to use his supreme powers to call the President to
order in order to save his subjects from being
extincted by the evil machinations of the NDC.
According to him, they are ready to fight to
defend the country, the Kingdom and its people,
warning that nothing will stop the NPP from
protecting the integrity of the polls.
"We were born here and we are ready to die here
for our country, our Kingdom and our King" He
said.
The NPP regional chairman also charged the Police
and the Military to live above reproach, by
executing their duties in a manner devoid of bias
and discrimination.
He pointed out that the current incident is a test
case of the integrity of the security agencies,
stressing the NPP is following with key interest
and anxiety, how the security agencies will handle
the matter.
"We have seen clearly the evil intentions of the
NDC and how they intend to cause violence in the
region; we want to know how the security will deal
with this case" He noted.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman has meanwhile
cautioned the Electoral Commission to also come
clean on the number of discrepancies in the voters
register as well as the widespread cases of
infractions that ocurred during yesterday's
Special Voting.
Chairman Wontumi questioned why there are
inconsistencies in the figures presented to the
NPP and the one available on its own website. Source - Peacefmonline
