Claims that I’ll make my hometown Kyebi Ghana’s capital baseless – Akufo Addo The Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic
Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo, has dismissed rumours
that he’ll move the capital of Ghana from Accra
to Kyebi, his hometown in the Eastern Region.
According to him, he finds it unfathomable why
anyone will tell such a fat lie against him,
adding that such falsehood can be peddled by only
persons who are desperate for power.
There have been rumours that the three-time
presidential candidate of the NPP intends to
relocate the capital of Ghana to his hometown.
There are said to be an email circulating on
social media which details his plans to actualize
this intention.
However speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show on
Friday, Nana Akufo Addo who fingered the ruling
National Democratic Congress (NDC) for throwing in
such rumours further slammed the party for
descending low in their political discourse.
“The capital of Ghana was brought to Accra from
Cape Coast over 100 years ago. I’m shocked that
someone will say that I’ll move the capital from
Accra to Kyebi. This spurious claim is not
different from what was levelled against President
Kufour by his detractors prior to the 2000
election, that he’ll take the Sea from Accra to
Kumasi in his home region when he wins power. It
is a petty that those we are contesting in this
election, will descend to this level of
engagement. It is as though we don’t respect
Ghanaians.
He added: “How on earth can someone say such a
thing, how can it happen that in the short while
that I become President, I’ll ignore this huge
development in Accra and move the capital to Kyebi
becuase I came from the town. I’m not trying to
come to power to develop only Kyebi and make
Okyehene more powerful like it’s being alleged.
My goal is to develop the entire country and
introduce policies and programmes that will
enhance the living conditions of Ghanaians.” Source - Kasapafm
