Ring leaders of car snatching syndicate grabbed The Assesewa District Police Command in the
Eastern region have arrested two members believed
to be ring leaders of a car snatching syndicate
who mostly operate in Kumasi, Accra and other
parts of the country.
The suspects are Eric Addo Tetteh ,40 year old
ex-convict, and Kwesi Owusu a commercial vehicle
driver in Accra.
Eric Addo Tetteh, released from Prison eight years
ago, operated with his accomplices including a
female even while serving his prison sentence to
snatch and steal vehicles in parts of the
country.
He, the ring leader was arrested after selling one
of the stolen vehicles to a teacher at Ayensu
Besia Anglican Primary School in Assesewa while
hiding at a village.
He sold the the Hyundai H100 with registration
number GW 7046-13 to the teacher with fake
documents after checks at Weija DVLA Office, at
the cost of gh15,000,while his other accomplice,
Kwesi Owusu was later arrested in Accra.
According to the Assesewa District Police
Commander, Sup. Kofi Ahiatafu ,” during
investigation it came to light that first suspect,
Eric Addo Tetteh, who was hiding at Asesewa Brepow
and Kwesi Owusu 27yrs, and their accomplices
including a female belong to a team that goes
round snatching cars from Accra, Kumasi, and other
places, change the color, fake the number plates
and sell to the public.
They stole one of the stolen vehicles with
registration No, GW, 7046-13 and chassis No,
KMJFD37 T
BPIK514097 to the complainant as a used car at the
cost of Ghc15,000.00 and added fake document and a
number plate of registration number, GW
7046″
According to the Police Commander, the first
suspect, upon his arrest at his hide out at Brepow
near Asesewa, admitted the offence and named
suspect Kwesi Owusu, driver, and two others
including a lady, now at large as his
accomplices.
Hence police proceeded with the help of Weija
Police to arrest the second Kwesi Owusu in Accra.
Sup. Ahiatafu explained that, Police retrieved one
of the stolen vehicles, Hyundai H100 with faked
number plate GS, 164-Y, with insurances stickers
on the vehicles Nos AS 3552-14 WR, 801-14 and GW
1642 -14 and a number plate No GE1642-14 road
safety certificate and other documents were also
retrieved.
Police now have two Hyundai H100 Vehicles in its
custody, hence calling on the general public for
