Vote against those who disrespect you – Nungua chief to Gas
The chief of Nungua and president of the Nungua
Traditional Council, Odaifio Welentsi III, has
advised Ga people in the Greater Accra Region to
vote against political parties and leaders that
have treated them scorn.

He stated that Ga chiefs were furious over
statements made by surrogates of the opposition
New Patriotic Party (NPP) against the ethnic group
and urged them to apologise or forever hold their
peace.

"Listen to what the political parties are saying.
I won't tell you to vote for party A or B, but
those who speak against the Ga -Dangme people
should be rejected."

Odaifio Welentsi noted: "Those people who made
those statements have not thought it wise to
apologise and retract their ethnocentric
statements. For this reason, I’m calling on my
people to vote against those who hate us and
thought that nothing good could come out of the
chiefs and people of Ga-Dangme.”

The Nungua chief made this known when the Chief of
Staff, Julius Debrah, paid a courtesy call on him
at his palace as part of his five-day tour of the
Greater Accra Region.

He advised followers of political parties,
supporters of the NDC and the NPP especially, to
stick to the rules of the game and not do anything
that could undermine the peace and unity of the
nation, saying, "When two elephants fight, it is
the grass that suffers,” hence the need to be
circumspect in their utterances and help build a
just and fair society as the country inches to
Election 2016.

He also charged the security agencies to discharge
their duties without fear or favour to safeguard
the peace of the nation.

The Nungua chief admonished Ga chiefs to desist
from endorsing presidential candidates openly, but
urged them to campaign secretly for the candidate
of their choice.

On his part, the Chief of Staff explained that he
was in the palace on behalf of his boss, President
John Mahama, who is seeking re-election.

Mr Debrah urged the chiefs and people to vote for
Mr Mahama and the NDC for economic empowerment and
inclusiveness to accelerate the country's
socio-economic development as well as give the
youth alternative livelihood programmes aimed at
generating massive employment.

The Chief of Staff later visited the Gbobu Wolomo
of Nungua before interacting with taxi drivers,
traders, pure water sellers, etc.

Mr Debrah was accompanied by leading members of
the NDC including Prof Kwamena Ahwoi, Madam
Faustina Nelson, Deputy Communications Minister
Ato Sarpong, and presidential staffers Mawusi
Dzirasa and Emilia Arthur and former MP for
Adentan Kojo Adu Asare.

The rest are NDC Deputy General Secretary Koku
Anyidoho, Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii
Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional
Coordinator Sylvester Mensah, Greater Accra
Regional Chairman Joseph Ade Coker, among others.
