UFP roots for Mahama after EC’s disqualification The United Front Party (UFP) has thrown its weight
behind President John Dramani Mahama in the
upcoming December 7 presidential election.
Mr. Mahama is also the presidential candidate for
the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Leader and Chairman of the UFP, Nana Agyenim
Boateng, said after his disqualification from the
presidential race by the Electoral Commission (EC)
of Ghana, he and his followers had no option than
to review the policy documents (manifestos) of the
leading political parties in the country; NDC and
the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to see which party
shares in their vision and to support them.
“When Charlotte Osei disqualified me, we United
Front Party took a decision that we have to see
the way forward, which is to support one of the
political parties. So, we studied the NDC
manifesto and that of NPP. After studying those
documents we also looked at the leadership of Nana
Akufo-Addo and the leadership of John Dramani
Mahama in the NDC. I was a member of the NPP
during the days of John Agyekum Kufuor as
President. During those days, we saw the NDC as a
party full of hooligans but when Mahama took over
the leadership of the NDC, he has been able to
unite the party for it to become so attractive.
Same cannot be said of the NPP. Today, one can ask
where is Kwabena Agyapon in the NPP?, where is
Paul Afoko and Sammy Crabbe? So, under Akufo-Addo
leadership, the NPP is no more united. This is the
reason why we have decided to support President
Mahama and the NDC,” he noted.
The UFP leader made this observation in an
interaction with Accra-based Okay FM, Wednesday,
November 23, 2016.
In October, 2016, the electoral management body
disqualified the candidature of Nana Agyenim
Boateng for failing to meet the nomination
requirement of Regulation 7(2) (b) of CI.94.
Due to this, the EC was unable to accept the
nomination of the UFP leader.
Chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei who
announced the decision of the EC at a press
conference told journalists that “One subscriber
Amadu Babia Latifah with Voter ID number
3357006984, and Polling station K100401 supported
the nomination of another candidate (page
110).This is in breach of Regulation 7 (4) of CI
94.”
The Subscriber, she added, had different
signatures on both candidates’ nominations
raising questions as to the legitimacy of the
signature on both forms.
Three of Mr. Boateng’s subscribers supported the
nomination of another candidate and again, with
different signatures.
This, the EC noted, was again in breach of
Regulation 7(4) of CI. 94.
Details are: Alfred Yevuglo (page 35) with Voter
ID no: 1270013632 and Polling station code:
D09120.
Dagadu Raymond (page 35) with Voter ID no:
1270012857 and Polling station code: D091201 and
Adu Thomas (page 67) with Voter ID no: 3703013114
and Polling station code: F310202.
“We will refer the matter of the possible
forgeries of these signatures to the Ghana Police
Service and the Attorney General for investigation
and prosecution in line with the following
sections of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act
29),” Charlotte Osei declared after
disqualifying Mr. Boateng. Source - Kasapafm
