Amidu-Woyome duel won’t sway voters: Lecturer The examination of businessman Alfred Woyome by
former Attorney General Martin Amidu, in
connection with the GHS51.2 million judgement debt
paid to the former, will not sway the votes of the
pubic unless there is new evidence, Dr Edward
Brenya, a political science lecturer at the Kwame
Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
(KNUST), has said.
The Attorney General discontinued a case to cross
examine Mr Woyome on the said judgement debt,
compelling Mr Amidu, who was not enthused about
the development, to apply to the Supreme Court to
orally examine Mr Woyome himself.
Mr Amidu, who has subsequently called on Ghanaians
to vote against President John Mahama and the
governing National Democratic Congress in the
December 7 polls for their failure to retrieve the
money, will have his day in court on November 24.
Dr Brenya has told Class News that the outcome of
the examination will not yield much in terms of
swaying votes unless fresh evidence is adduced to
further nail Mr Woyome and the NDC government.
“People have already made their minds up whether
they will support the NDC based on this issue.
That I believe is a long gone conclusion; unless
there is new evidence to the contrary that will
come up through the examination that will be a
different thing. Other than that, I think it is an
issue that has been well exhausted. …I don’t
think this is going to sway anybody,” Dr Brenya
told Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang on 12Live on Friday, 18
November.
Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General, Dr Dominic
Ayine, has accused Mr Amidu of being a “liar”,
saying he is only chasing after the Woyome case
for political gain in the build-up to the December
polls.
