Stalled Sofoline flyover: Kumasi residents march Residents of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region are
demonstrating against the government over what
they describe as government’s neglect of the
Sofoline interchange project.
They claim the government had abandoned the
project, which began in 2008, directing resources
to the construction of the Kwame Nkrumah
interchange, inaugurated by President John Dramani
Mahama on Monday November 14, a development that
has not gone down well with some persons living in
the Garden City.
Accra News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent,
Owoahene Addae Mununkum, reported on Wednesday
November 16 that contractors working on the
Sofoline interchange had abandoned the project.
According to him, the residents were furious
because answers were not forthcoming from the
Director of Urban Roads in the region, Theodore
Quaye, to their queries on the project.
“This is the reason why they are not happy. They
saw what happened at Circle in Accra and wondered
why the Sofoline interchange, which was started
before the Circle flyover, has not been completed.
The residents are also blaming the chiefs and
other traditional leaders in the region, as well
as the assembly members of the Kumasi Metropolitan
Assembly (KMA) for not putting pressure on the
government to complete the project,” he reported
to Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on
Accra100.5FM.
