Validated Nurses To Be Paid By November Ending All validated nurses of the Ghana Nurses and
Midwives Association (GRNMA) to be paid fully by
end of November, the Public Relations Officer of
the Health Ministry has said.
This comes after the nurses agreed to call off
their strike Friday, after a meeting with
government.
According to Mr. Tony Goodman, “most of the
validated names they have are at the Controller
and Accountant General’s [department] so that is
what the controller said.”
He indicated that they agreed at their meeting
with the leadership of the nurses and other
stakeholders that “every amount of money or
every person that has been validated should be
paid by the end of this month.”
Meanwhile he is hopeful the rest of the nurses who
are yet to be validated and submitted will do so
quickly adding they “are hopeful that very soon
that will also be submitted to the controller and
accountant general for them to also start paying
them.”
Background
The nurses withdrew all Out Patients Department
services with attention to only emergency and
maternity cases on Thursday, November, 10.
This action was preceded by the wearing of red
armbands from November 1-6 and an ultimatum to the
government to resolve issues confronting the
nurses on salary arrears, posting of graduate
nurses among others.
Most patients were left stranded at the hospitals
following their [nurses and midwives] decision to
only attend to emergency cases.
They had earlier given government an ultimatum to
resolve the issues confronting them but
government’s failure to meet their demands ahead
of time forced their action.
