Peace Council condemns stoning of Nana’s residence The pelting of the residence of the flag bearer of
the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) with
stones by some members of the governing National
Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday must be
condemned, the Chair of the National Peace
Council, Prof Emmanuel Asante, has said.
“It must be condemned. It is condemnable to pelt
the residence of a prominent individual with
stones,” Prof Asante told Chief Jerry Forson on
Accra100.5FM’s Ghana Yensom programme on Monday,
14 November, in reaction to clashes between
supporters of the two parties in front of Nana
Akufo-Addo’s Nima residence following the
alleged stone-throwing incident which occurred as
the two parties embarked on their respective Keep
Fit activities.
“The provocation must be condemned and the
police must take action immediately and arrest the
event organisers and let them help with
investigations,” Prof Asante said.
Police have confirmed that there were warning
shots fired by the bodyguards of Mr Akufo-Addo
following the stone-throwing incident.
Prof Asante cautioned: “We have only Ghana as
our country. We must not resort to self-defence at
all,” adding: “The police must act swiftly on
some of these impunities.
“I’ll also plead with the political parties. I
will expect that the leadership of the political
parties will stand and condemn such acts and hand
over to the police their members who perpetrated
such impunity.” Source - Classfmonline
