Two robbers jailed 40yrs The Kumasi High Court, presided over by Justice
Francis Obiri, has sentenced two robbers to 40
years imprisonment with hard labour for robbing
three households at Achiase-Fawode near Mampong in
2014.
Godfred Yeboah, an apprentice mason and Augustine
Obeng, a cobbler, pleaded not guilty to the two
counts of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
They were, however, found guilty by the court and
sentenced to 40 years on each count. The sentences
are to run concurrently.
Three other accomplices only known as Baffa, Tupac
and Emma are, however, on the run.
Presenting the facts of the case, Assistant State
Attorney, Mr Emmanuel Otu Boison, told the court
that on Saturday, March 29, 2014, the convicts
went to Asuofua and planned together with their
accomplices now at large, to embark on a robbery
at Mamponteng.
On March 31, 2014, he said, Yeboah took delivery
of three pump action guns, a pistol and other
tools, concealed them in a suit case from the
three now at large and brought them to Mamponteng
to be used for the robbery.
The two, together with their accomplices on April
1, 2014 attacked three houses at Achiase, near
Mamponteng and robbed the occupants of their cash,
laptops, iPad, mobile phones and other properties
worth thousands of cedis.
On April 3, 2014, the police acting upon a tip
off, arrested the convicts and a search conducted
in their rooms revealed two laptops, one iPad, one
mobile phone and a pen drive and Multi TV decoder,
which were all identified by the victims of the
robbery attacks on April 1, to be theirs.
The convicts were referred to the Regional
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the
Ghana Police Service where they were charged with
the offences. Source - Graphiconline
