Insulate hospitality industry from foreign domination – Mrs Kyei EKGS Culinary Institute has held its 36th
graduation ceremony with a call on government to
insulate the hospitality industry from foreign
domination.
Mrs Efua Goode-Obeng Kyei, Director of the
institute, said the sector has the potential to
create employment but foreigners with the knowhow
in the industry can take advantage of the
situation and dominate it to the detriment of
Ghanaians if government refused to insulate them.
She also called on fellow practitioners in the
sector to wake up to the challenges in the modern
hospitality industry to meet the changing needs
and expectations of customers.
Vocational training, she added, has the potential
of absorbing the unemployment problem as
practitioners create jobs and offer employment
opportunities to many people.
She said practitioners in the industry are a
source of revenue for the state as they pay taxes
through the employment opportunities they offer to
people in the society.
The director said the institute has diversified
and upgraded their mainstream courses to take care
of new techniques and technologies in the industry
to position itself to meet new challenges and
developments.
She noted that said since the institute started
its journey of providing young people with
employable skills, the feedback has been terrific
and rewarding.
Mrs Goode urged the graduates to devote themselves
completely to their training and carve a niche for
themselves as they strive for excellence amidst
all the odds.
She congratulated the management and staff of EKGS
for their efforts in providing the youth with
employable skills over the years.
The graduation saw 105 students, including five
males graduating after six months of training in
cake making and decoration, sugar-art, pastry
making art, cookery, as well as balloon, ribbon
and floral décor.
Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan, Chief Executive Officer of
L’AINE Services, speaking at the graduation
ceremony, urged the graduates to concentrate more
on offering quality service since that is the
backbone to their professional expertise.
She congratulated EKGS for training young men and
women and creating job opportunities for them.
There were exhibitions of creative designs of Cake
and Sugar Arts, Pastry, Ribbon and Floral Arts by
the students.
The event, which took place at the Ghana
International Press Centre, saw students exhibit
some of their works such as cakes and several
varieties of pastries and intricate floral
arrangements.
The occasion was marked under the theme,
“Harnessing the potential of the youth to attain
the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. Source - The Finder
