Meet Bill Grant, the corporate gospel musician
Bill Grant is one of the most anointed singers
that Ghana Music.com has had the privilege to see
and hear. His ministry is unlike no other. His
humble heart and openness about his songs makes
him such a tremendous minister of the gospel.

God has a special anointing on this man to reach
lost and hurting souls.

When Bill Grant sings, he tells a story with his
whole being. He has a true anointing of God.

His voice takes listeners to places which no other
singer has done before which will let you feel
that he brings you are in the presence of God.

Bill Grant hopes his ‘Hope’ album becomes an
encouragement to all. Read on to know more about
him below…

Ghana Music.com: How long have you been singing
for?
Bill Grant: Singing has always been part of my
life. We have had music in my house all the time.
The genre spans a variety of songs; both African
and songs of Western and Caribbean influence. I
actively started singing during my senior years in
secondary school.

Ghana Music.com: When did you decide you wanted to
take music further as a career? 

Bill Grant: My Dad is a Minister of the Gospel and
I was around church all the time. I was
particularly drawn to the song leaders and the
choirmasters. I started by leading my school choir
and I transitioned to taking care of the church
choir right after secondary school. By this point
I was so immense in music that I can't tell how it
all began. What I remember though is I was
visiting my ground mother in Kumasi and during one
of my frequent trips from Grace Baptist Church in
Amakom where my family fellowship, I uttered these
words "Lord let me serve you in the area of music
in body of Christ" I believe the Lord heard my
plea because I have been serving the body of
Christ in the capacity of music minister and
coordinator for the past two decades.

Ghana Music.com: What messages do you try to
include in your album?
Bill Grant: The Epistle to the Ephesians is my
favourite book in the bible. Ephesians deals with
topics at the very core of what it means to be a
Christian. In this book The Apostle Paul speaks to
God’s creation of a holy community by His gift
of grace in the death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. No human being was worthy to be part of
this community but through the redemptive work of
Christ on the cross of Calvary we have access to
the father and have become part of the common
wealth of Israel. It is on this truth that most of
the songs on this album constructed. Understanding
this truth calls for a resounding praise in spite
of our circumstances. This verse of scripture
makes me smile “Blessed is the man against whom
the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit
there is no deceit” Psalm 3:2.

Ghana Music.com: For many of today's gospel
artists, they are balancing their
music
career with other commitments such as
work, university and college.
How do you in
particular find the balance between work and
music?

Bill Grant: I have to strike a balance between
work, parenting, music and school. I'm commencing
my Master September, I work full time as Public
Health Professional. I have to make time for
recording in the studio and playing my role in
church as Music coordinator at Living Word
Assembly of God. Like the Apostle Paul my call
involves making "tent" for the sustenance of my
family. It is challenging with great time
management skills and the support of my family and
a group of trusted friends, I call HUB, they
include Rocky Prempeh, Vince Oppong, Prince Adom,
Anita Marfo, Akwazi Jay, Comfort Oduro-Yeboah and
McJerry Oteng. These guys selfless support my
vision and this project. A shout out to my
Partners, Akipari LTD, Koded Studio, Luster Image
and my Church Living Word Assembly of God as
Christian Family International.

Ghana Music.com: Do you have a particular goal or
achievement, which you would like to
achieve
with your music?
Bill Grant: I consider myself an advocate of
corporate worship. The bible instructs every
believer to Praise the Lord. It is my goal that I
make this admonishing light work for saints I
serve in my church and those who would be blessed
by the songs on this album.

I have observed that it's becoming challenging for
the congregation to sing in church. Only a few are
able to participate during corporate worship in
church. This can be attributed to the degree of
complexity of some songs and song leaders
overlooking the demographics they are ministering
to and this leads to construction of personal
worship. However corporate worship can be summed
up in this manner "We all do it". There are songs
for ministration and prayers and they serve the
church well. Song for corporate worship should
empower ‘us all to do it’. My goal is to help
develop capacity of song ministers to get us all
doing it and also contribute song that will allow
us all to do it. It's all about the local church.

Ghana Music.com: It seems you have penned quite a
number of encouraging songs over the
years.
How did you develop such acute sensitivity to
broken people's
needs?
Bill Grant: Growing up my prayer request was to be
songwriter, I am not keen on publishing existing
songs, I think it is because I have embraced the
admonishing "sing new songs to the Lord. Besides
praying for new songs I also read about great
songwriters and I listen to their work. George
Frederick Handel and Charles Wesley have
influenced my song writing; they compose songs
about the grace of God, the blood and cross of
Jesus and redemptive work of Christ on the cross.

Ghana Music.com: What is it about Billy Grant and
praise gospel music?
Bill Grant: I must also give credit to the saints
in my local church – Living Word Assembly of God
who have sang my compositions prior to becoming a
recording artist. Their feedback has been
excellent to shape my song writing skills. I am
humble and overwhelmed with joy when my colleagues
who are praise and worship leaders and my Pastor
bust forth with some of my compositions. The goal
for Billy Grant is to contribute songs we sing in
Churches for corporate music.

Ghana Music.com: Do you ever wonder why God chose
you to do what you do?
Bill Grant: I am amazed God choose me to serve in
the area of music. Mann! I'm a wretch, I was dead
in my sins and trespass, and I’m by nature
deserving the wrath of God. But God is so rich in
mercy, who loved me so much has saved me by grace
and has built me into a living stone to burn
sacrifices that are acceptable to him Amen to
that….

Ghana Music.com: What would you say was the most
important time in your gospel career?

Bill Grant: For a gospel singer your primary role
is to lead the congregation to Christ. However
most of what we do is part of the performing arts.
How do you get the saints to focus on God while
you engaged them in worship? Yet we are instructed
to "seek to be hidden" What a delicate balance to
achieve. However our ministration must comfort,
edify and must leave sinners and saints yearning
for Christ. For me the most important time in my
career was when a gentleman walker to me after
ministration and asked that I lead him to Christ,
I was rejoicing and so was heaven.

Ghana Music.com: How would you describe your
sound?

Bill Grant: My sound is traditional with a fusion
of contemporary elements yet unique to Billy
Grant. My sound is influenced by the power of the
Holy Spirit for edification to the saints


Ghana Music.com: What are your
opinions of the gospel music scene in the Ghana at
the moment?
Bill Grant: Gospel music in
Ghana keeps expanding. It is vibrant, relevant and
can't be ignored. Ghana gospel music is crossing
into some other cultures around the world. The
best is yet to come.

Ghana Music.com: Share with us your new songs
coming up?
Bill Grant: My upcoming album is called Hope. It's
made up of six tracks with 15 songs. It spans many
style of music. The content reflects the
redemptive work of cross.

The tracks are: He Rose – a typical Easter
Sunday morning resurrection song that Jesus
conquered the grave and death. … Hallelujah.

King Immortal – The song of the sinner, praising
the king immortal and king eternal for saving
them.

Praise of the Redeemed- is a medley structured on
Ghanaian danceable rhythm for the saint to
celebrate the Lordship of Jesus and for becoming a
new creature.

Worship of the Redeemed – Also a medley that
leads the saints to adore and pay homage to God
for saving them from their sins.

Most High – Based on the Lords prayer that calls
for reflecting on the Holiness and the wonder of
God.

Yehowa – A prayer based on Psalm 23, to reassure
the saint, the lord cares for them.

The song are composed in Twi and Ga dialect of the
people of Ghana and English language.
