Woman Charged With Bigamy In Ghana Patience Belinda Gyamfi, a 32-year-old woman, has
legally married two men with the support of her
family to amass their wealth.
According to Police investigation, Belinda married
her first husband Maximus Anumah, staff of 37
military Hospital in 2012and subsequently married
Audrey Atikpo, a Ghanaian citizen based in the US
in January 2013.
It was reviewed that her first marriage was
registered under the Accra Metropolitan Assembly
(AMA) and the second, in Somanya in the Eastern
Region. The report disclosed that in mid-January
2013, Belinda mischievously told her first
husband, Anumah, she wants to seek God’s
intervention for her bareness at the Edumfa prayer
club.
Unbeknown to the husband, she was going for a
secret wedding with her second husband. Belinda
and Atikpo rented a house in East Legon and weeks
after his departure to United States, Belinda
returned to her first husband. According to Mr.
Anumah, Belinda’s demeanor changed towards him,
causing several arguments.
He added that, instead of her father making
amends, he insisted the couples break up by
presenting some drinks and GHC 300.000 to him,
which he suspiciously rejected. This, Mr. Anumah,
said prompted him to search for clues which led
the note bearing Audrey Atipko’s identity and
further communications with him. Belinda upon
finding out her double life had been discovered
packed her things from Mr. Anumah’s house to
Atipko house.
