Rape claim against KKD “mere afterthought” – Lawyers Lawyers for Kwasi Kyei Darkwah have described as
an “afterthought”, the rape allegation against
their client.
In a motion filed at the Human Rights Court
towards securing bail for the beleaguered showbiz
icon, KKD’s Lawyers said: “The allegation of
rape is a mere afterthought.”
The Lawyers wondered why the 19-year-old victim
who filed the case against the 49-year-old father
of two “did not even report to a close relative
who was in the same hotel suite with her.”
Awuraffe Orleans Thompson told the Police she was
sexually assaulted by KKD in the washroom of a
suite at the African Regent Hotel within the
Airport residential area.
Cousins of both the teenager girl and KKD were in
the same suite as the two had sex in the
bathroom.
KKD’s Lawyers say they are befuddled that the
alleged victim did not find it necessary to report
the case to her cousin, if indeed she was raped.
In their argument, the facts presented by the
prosecution to support the rape charge are
untenable.
“It is the contention of counsel that the facts
presented by the prosecution to ground the charge
of rape against the accused person do not prima
facie support the criminal offence of rape,” the
motion, which is billed to be heard on January 7,
2015 averred.
KKD is spending time behind cells at the Airport
Police Command. A district Magistrate Court in
Accra denied him bail when he first appeared
before Court on Tuesday December 30, 2014. His
Lawyers are hoping the Human Rights Court will
accede to their prayer for bail for their client.
