Rising Star – Kalybos takes home 'Discovery of the Year' award at the GMAs Young Ghanaian actor Richard Asante, more commonly
known as Kalybos, is an inspiring YouTube comedy
superstar whose rise to fame is an exciting
Ghanaian story to tell.
The thrilling comedian and actor was recognised
and named Discovery of the Year at the Ghana Movie
Awards ceremony held on Tuesday December 30, 2014
at the Accra International Conference Center.
The "Only Boss" with one ‘S’, rose to fame
through his popular free-for-downloads comedy
skits dubbed the ‘Boys Kasa Series.’
These series include Kalybos goes to Brazil, The
Fat Bill, the Good Samaritan, One Bottle, Tweaa
and The Pharmacy Wahala.
In his acceptance speech, Kalybos who shared the
moment with the delectable Ahuof3 Patri whom he
went on stage with, said he was grateful to God
for his “mercies” and to Ghanaians for their
support.
“We didn’t know it would get us on this stage
tonight and we are grateful” he noted as he
thanked his fans who watched and shared his
YouTube viral videos.
Asante in an earlier interview with Starr
Entertainment said he was awestruck by the fame he
now enjoys on the Ghanaian comedy scene.
“I never knew it could get to this level. For
the start we were doing it for free and we
didn’t know it was good work and that people
would appreciate it…”
A second year student studying
‘Cinematography’ at NAFTI, the natural born
comedian said he developed interest in acting when
he worked for movie producer, Shirley Frimpong
Manso and her Sparrow Productions.
Kalybos on stage, also thanked movie producer Kofi
Asamoah whom he said encouraged him to start
acting the series.
The YouTube star currently has more than thirteen
videos to his credit and has many more recorded
and yet to be released.
The Ghana Movie Awards ceremony was well attended
by movie lovers, industry players and favorite
screen gems including Nigeria’s Patience
Ozorkwo, Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo,
Super OD, Nikki Samonas, Eddie Watson, David
Dontoh, Yvonne Nelson, Sandrah Ankobia, Lydia
Forson, Juliet Ibrahim, D-Black and Kwaku Manu.
Other recipients on the night are film producer
and director Shirley Frimpong Manso, Kumawood
stars Kwadwo Nkansah aka Lilwin and Rose Mensah
aka Kyeiwaa, Screen Goddess Joselyn Dumas, rapper
