Nana Akuoko Sarpong
Agogohene ‘Mad' on selection of DCE...says Prez Mahama did not consult him The Paramount Chief of Agogo, Nana Akuoko Sarpong
has expressed dissatisfaction with President
Mahama for not consulting him in the nomination of
Paul Awe Avelu for the post of District Chief
Executive (DCE).
He said the constitution clearly states that
traditional leaders should be consulted in the
selection of DCEs in the country.
Mr. Awe Avelu has been rejected twice by the
assembly members of the Asante Akim North District
Assembly during confirmation ceremonies, and it is
likely the President would nominate him for a
third time.
Reports that Mr. Awe Avelu might be renominated
have sparked fury among NDC functionaries in the
area, especially the youth, who have threatened to
oppose his nomination.
Speaking in an interview with Ali Baba of Kessben
FM on Monday evening, Nana Akuoko Sarpong said he
was not in support of the attempt by President to
nominate Mr. Avelu for the post.
He said the time has come for President to
nominate another person for the post, stressing
that the area has competent people to occupy the
post.
The rejection of the nominee by the Assembly
members is a clear indication that he was not the
right person for the position, he said.
The paramount chief appealed to President Mahama
not to impose the nominee on the people.
Meanwhile, a group of angry NDC Youth at Asante
Akim North have accused Mr. Avelu of offering
GH¢70,000 to the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman
Yaw Obimpeh to influence him.
Spokesperson of the aggrieved NDC group, Kojo
Donkor told Kessben FM that Mr. Awe Avelu wants to
be nominated for the third time.
Kojo Donkor said his group would thwart efforts by
Mr. Awe Avelu to occupy the post. Source - Peacefmonline
