Most Reverend Charles Palmer-Buckle
Palmer-Buckle reminds media of cost of false election coverage The Metropolitan Archbishop of the Catholic
Archdiocese of Accra, Most Reverend Charles
Palmer-Buckle has reminded journalists that they
are accountable for the consequences of every
report they convey to the general public as Ghana
gears up for the 2012 general elections.
Speaking to Citi News on Wednesday, Most Rev.
Palmer-Buckle said the media must be very
circumspect in their reportage as the choice and
kind of information disseminated in the
forthcoming 2012 elections can make or unmake the
society.
“I believe that every journalist must be
answerable for what he or she puts out into the
public domain. I think that the media is doing
well but we can do better,” he said.
“I say we can do better because I believe
strongly in the media and I think that I belong to
the media. ”
Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle noted that failure of the
media to be accurate in their reportage could have
grave consequences on the nation.
“First and foremost the consequence on the
personalities involved, the consequence to the
nation as a whole and the value of national
cohesion and peace,” he added.
