One of the foreign volunteers paying homage to Otumfuo
Asantehene endorses volunteerism The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged
Ghanaians to get involved in volunteerism to
develop the country.
He noted that volunteerism is one of the surest
ways of developing the society rapidly, entreating
the youth to get involved in such activities.
He observed that the country cannot realize its
ambitions of becoming a better place to live in
until everybody sacrifices. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
disclosed this at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi
last Wednesday when 44 foreign nationals, who are
embarking on volunteer activities, paid a courtesy
call on him at his palace.
LoszuGhana Association, Otumfuo Charity Foundation
and Literacy Promotion Advocacy Volunteers
collaborated to bring the volunteers to the
country.
Drawn from counties such as Japan, Germany and
other European countries, the volunteers, who are
mostly in their early 20s, are currently teaching
in various schools in the Ashanti region free of
charge.
LoszuGhana Association, which played an important
role in bringing the volunteers to Ghana, intends
to promote cross cultural integration and assist
humanity through their work.
The Project Coordinator, LoszuGhana Association,
Yaw Asare hinted that most of the volunteers have
used their own funds to undertake developmental
projects in areas where they operate since their
arrival in the country some months ago.
For instance one of them has personally purchased
a 40-seater bus, which is used to convey the
students to and from school on a daily basis.
Others have built computer laboratories and
classroom blocks for schools where they teach.
Mr. Asare also appealed to Ghanaian youth to get
involved in volunteerism, stating that this could
develop the country.
