Dawuni picks "Best African Artist" at the International Reggae World Music Awards.

Rocky Dawuni wins Best African Artist at World Music Awards
Ghanaian artist and NAACP Image Award nominee
Rocky Dawuni won the "Best African Artist" on
Saturday night May 28, at the 30th Anniversary of
the International Reggae and World Music Awards
(IRAWMA) in Trinidad.

Dawuni was nominated for IRAWMAs in the 'Best
Album' and 'Best African Artist' categories.

He performed on the night singing One Love with
Shaggy, Tarrus Riley, Tony Rebel, Machel Montano
and inter alia.
Dawuni, who was recently appointed by Ghana’s
Ministry of Tourism as their Tourism Ambassador,
has been praised for his success in music both at
home and abroad and for his ongoing positive
projection of Ghana in his concerts.

“The arts, especially music, can not only bring
tourists to Ghana, but create an appreciation for
the rich Ghanaian culture outside of Ghana. I am
prepared to do my utmost to broadly portray Ghana
and its rich heritage through my music, concerts,
humanitarian work and appearances worldwide,”
explained the new ambassador.

Dawuni’s musical collaborations include those
with U2 frontman, Bono on Bob Marley’s War, No
More Trouble and with Blues legend Keb Mo on Peter
Gabriel’s Biko, which were both featured on the
2009 Billboard Top 20 Album Playing For Change –
Songs Around the World.

His critically acclaimed current album, Hymns For
the Rebel Soul, was nominated for a prestigious
NAACP Image Award for 'Outstanding World Music
Album'.

The ceremony, which is dedicated to celebrating
the worldwide achievements of Caribbean and World
Music artists, was attended by Machel Montano HD,
Shaggy, Taurus Riley, Macka Diamond, Queen Ifrica,
Denise ‘Saucy Wow’ Belfon, St Maarten’s The
Mighty Dow, and the great Freddie McGregor.
